Westex’s roots are firmly planted in sheep farming and the textile heartland of West Yorkshire. Westex was originally founded by a master dyer who wanted to offer a wider range of colour and quality within carpet manufacture.

They still draw on and develop that legacy today, weaving luxury and durability into our carpets by utilising the best blend of wools, spinning techniques, dyeing and tufting processes. Every style and every colour is designed in-house at their dedicated manufacturing sites in West Yorkshire, ensuring excellence at every step for your carpet.

The history of Hugh Mackay spans over 100 years. Founded in 1903 by Hugh Mackay himself, the company started from humble beginnings with 11 looms installed in a shed in Durham. The ethos was simple: keep quality carpet making alive in the region.

They began producing Wilton carpets, then came their famous Durham Twist tufted carpet, with Axminster carpets joiining their collection in 1935. No home was complete without a Durham carpet!

Nearly 120 years later, and Hugh Mackay are still continuing the tradition of manufacturing high quality British carpets, whilst continuing to innovate to produce stunning carpets for every British home.
